Addiction often feels like a life sentence, locking people into cycles of pain, despair, and hopelessness. Yet for Brandi and Israel, two courageous individuals who sought help at Ready To Evolve, recovery has meant rediscovering themselves, healing their families, and building lives of dignity and purpose.

Brandi’s Story: From Trauma to Transformation

Brandi’s journey into addiction began with a lifetime of trauma. She endured years of abuse and sexual assault between the ages of six and seventeen. At 18, she turned to drugs and alcohol to cope with the pain. By her mid-twenties, her life was consumed by cocaine, meth, heroin, and bath salts. She lost custody of her children and spiraled deeper into self-destruction.

Her breaking point came at 35, when she went into cardiac arrest while pregnant with her fifth child. Despite suffering major heart failure, she continued to use. Looking back, she calls this the lowest point of her addiction.

Brandi’s turning point came not in tragedy, but in hope: she discovered she was ten weeks pregnant with her youngest daughter. Determined to make a change, she searched for a rehab that would allow her to bring her dog, eventually finding her way to Ready To Evolve.

“The first day I arrived, I felt happy and excited. I knew God was helping me,” she said. “The staff, especially Kellina, showed me love, helped me heal, and gave me self-esteem.”

Today, Brandi has been sober for nearly 19 months. She attends AA meetings almost daily, continues therapy, and participates in domestic violence recovery programs. Most importantly, she has rebuilt her relationships with her children, even regaining custody of her youngest daughter after two and a half years.

Israel’s Story: From Rock Bottom to Resilience

Israel’s background was one of stability. Raised in Mississippi and Tennessee, he had a loving family and played football in high school. But in his early twenties, he fell in with the wrong crowd. Alcohol and Xanax use quickly escalated which led to a year-long prison sentence.

Upon release, he relapsed the very first day, diving into cocaine and meth use that consumed the next eight years of his life. His rock-bottom moment came in his bedroom, scouring the carpet for crumbs of meth, a habit he once mocked in a friend.

“I swore I’d never do that, but there I was. That’s when I knew I had a problem.” – Israel

Despite his family’s support, Israel resisted help. But the disbelief of peers who told him he would never change fueled his determination. After a failed attempt at another rehab, he was referred to Ready To Evolve, where his real recovery began.

“I didn’t know if I could make it without the drug,” he admitted. “But Ready To Evolve gave me the courage to keep going when I was ready to give up.”

One of his most powerful breakthroughs came just days into treatment. Walking to Walmart, he intended to buy drugs but instead walked past the dealers empty-handed. “I beat it, it’s over with,” he told himself.

Now sober for over a year, Israel works two jobs. One as a barbecue pit master in Redlands and another as a chef. He is saving to buy a home and has restored his relationship with his family, who recently surprised him with a visit. He also gives back, speaking at the same detox center where he was once a patient.

The Ready To Evolve Difference

For both Brandi and Israel, the turning point wasn’t just their personal decision to seek help. It was the structure and support offered by Ready To Evolve. The center provides a full continuum of care, including medical detox, residential treatment, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and virtual outpatient support.

But beyond programs and therapies, what Brandi and Israel credit most is the environment of love and accountability.

“The best therapy was learning to love myself again,” Israel said.

“They gave me a safe place where everyone shared the same goal, sobriety,” Brandi added.
